Create the best Jim Morrison site on the Internet!

To celebrate Jim Morrison's 70th birthday, I will be launching his new & improved web site on December 8.

Here's what's in store for you...

Content: Fresh new content, author avatars and bios. All broken links and images will be fixed.

Catalog: Rather than just an Amazon store, this section will be your resource for The Doors songs and lyrics.

Photographs: Add a photo gallery (3,000+ photos).

Library: Build a document repository to categorize scanned magazine articles from vintage & present-day magazines, news clips, and other documents I have collected during the past three years.

Events Calendar: Create a calendar of all The Doors concerts & gigs for the years spanning 1965-1971.

What do you think?

I want your feedback and suggestions for making Jim Morrison Project (www.jimmorrisonproject.com) the best Jim Morrison site on the Internet!

Do you have something Jim Morrison-related you'd like to share as a gift to him?

If you have written articles or poems about Jim Morrison, or if you have photographs or artwork of him (The Doors), created videos, etc., consider sharing them on Jim Morrison Project and gain some great exposure!

You will be given full credit for your submissions, including a live link to your website, blog or social media profile.

A lot of people I meet comment on my Jim Morrison "obsession." Although to some people, I may appear a little weird, others find it intriguing, and they remember me when they hear a Doors song or his name (which is super cool!!).

It's sort of branding in a way.

When I follow-up with sales leads, for instance, a great majority mention Jim Morrison on our first phone call.

As they teach in BNI (Business Network International), we all need a "hook" -- something people will remember us by. For me, my "hook" is Jim Morrison, and I couldn't be more proud of it!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06627282790799774707noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6054717479623837443.post-27966327550193375692012-03-20T11:51:00.000-07:002012-03-20T11:51:53.825-07:00New Site Launched: Escape on the Lake

Our first stop was Morrison Hotel, located at 1246 South Hope Street in Los Angeles, CA.

Although the building is boarded up, it has great potential for renovation, as it appears structurally sound.

Los Angeles is diverse and rich in culture, with fifty percent of the population coming from Mexico.

Driving through the fashion district, the streets were littered with pup tents and cardboard boxes sheltering the 80,000 homeless in the city.

Our next stop was Barney's Beanery, located at 8447 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, CA.

Nick Zaki was my personal tour guide, and we shared a love of Jim Morrison. The five hours we were together was non-stop talking. Actually, the day I spent with Nick was the best I had in Los Angeles!!

If, you're looking for a great cab driver in Los Angeles, call Nick at 310.339.3977.

Nick and I ate at Barney's Beanery. I loved that place. The atmosphere was laid back and fun. I could totally envision Jim Morrison hanging out there. The ceilings and walls were covered with memorabilia.

When I walked into the ladies room, the second stall had this huge photo of Janis Joplin that caught my attention immediately. Just had to snap a photo of Pearl.

I didn't use the Janis stall. I choose the third stall, and low and behold, Morrison Hotel!! Lots of great memorabilia and graffiti in the bathroom.

A shot of the bar room. Jim Morrison purportedly urinated on the bar. I guess that's a good enough reason to nick name him Jimbo :)

Another shot of the bar room. The patrons were hooting & hollering during the Eagles/Ravens game.

My breakfast -- so delicious!! Huevos rancheros. One of only two Mexican meals I had in L.A.

From our booth, I looked up, and there was Jim Morrison's Wanted Poster on the ceiling!! Had to take a snap shot.

The big highlight of our tour was our next stop: The Alta Cienega Motel, located at 1005 North La Cienega Blvd., West Hollywood, CA, where Jim Morrison lived on and off in Room 32. It was exciting to see the place.

I asked the owners if I could see Room 32, and they agreed. It was so worth the $10 I paid them!!

You could easily spend a weekend reading all the graffiti in Room 32 at the Alta Cienega Motel. Someone actually wrote "Nixon Killed Jim Morrison"—makes sense to me.

Although the Alta Cienega Motel is undergoing construction, Room 32 is intact! I should have signed the wall. Why didn't I think of that?!!

Me, proudly standing next to the photo of Jim Morrison's Miami mug shot, in front of his room at the Alta Cienega Motel. Very cool!!

This is supposedly Jim Morrison's last address: 1229 North Harper Avenue, West Hollywood, CA. From what I understand, he never actually lived here.

For a small sum of $1,000/week, you can rent the place. Next time I go to Los Angeles, I'm staying here!!

Another shot of the Whisky… Such a cool place!

Read names—you will note The Doors!

Next, we drove up Laurel Canyon. Although you're in the heart of a big city, you almost feel like you're in the country. The streets are narrow with lots of woods, twists & curves and, of course, the Hollywood hills. It took a bit of patience to find the Laurel Canyon Country Store (our landmark), but the Love Street house was easily recognizable by the bell tower.

The Love Street house, located at 8021 Rothdell Trail, Laurel Canyon, CA, was burned by arsonists on December 30, 2011.

Here is a glimpse of the burned portion of the house. The house is already under renovation and luckily, the damage didn't look too bad.

A better photo of the front of Jim & Pamela's Laurel Canyon home. It was really hard to see the house with the tall fence and shrubbery.

The Laurel Canyon Country Store. Why the heck didn't I go inside?!!

The last leg of our historic Jim Morrison journey was Venice Beach, where The Doors were incepted.

This is Jim Morrison's pal Dennis Jakob's apartment building, located at 12 Westminster Ave., Venice, CA, where Jim Morrison lived on the roof top during the summer of '65, surviving on acid and creating a concert in his head that would eventually turn into The Doors original sound and unique lyrics.

Next door was a freaky looking house where I imagine some devil worshipping or witchcraft is going on. I didn't want to jinx myself by taking a photo of the house, but for sure it's a sight to see. It'll creep you out.

The last stop on my list was the mural of Jim Morrison in Venice Beach, located at 1811 Speedway. The mural is so huge, you could see it in the distance at least two blocks down.

Getting closer... Damn fence!

The mural starts at the top of the building and goes all the way down to the ground.

There are still so many places to visit, but I thought this was a great start to paying homage to Jim Morrison. On my next trip to L.A., I want to spend some serious time strolling the streets and beach in Venice. Venice Beach has such a fun atmosphere—very hippie-like. It's easy to imagine Jim Morrison strolling up and down the streets.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06627282790799774707noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6054717479623837443.post-45796991513613479822012-01-30T06:57:00.000-08:002012-03-20T11:18:01.907-07:00New Site Launched: The PRN Therapist, Inc.I am pleased to announce the launch of The PRN Therapist's new website. That idea has stuck with me ever since.

Although we may have fallen short from time-to-time, our primary goal at Indigo Creative Solutions is to DELIGHT our customers.

The past three years have been personally challenging. As a result, I've noticed that the level of my customer service is not up to my usual high demands. Although I have tried hard not to let my personal life interfere with my business life, there is no denying, my customer services skills have suffered.

This afternoon, though, one of my clients that we built a website for last year referred her father to me to build his new website. Her recommendation made me feel real good! And it reassures me that we're on the right track to reaching the high customer service goals I have for Indigo.

If you have any suggestions on how we can further improve Indigo's customer service, I'd love to hear from you!! Although nobody likes to hear criticism, if we don't know there's an issue, we can't fix the problem. Please write me at joanne@glasspoole.com and don't worry about hurting my feelings. What I want to know is how can we serve you better.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06627282790799774707noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6054717479623837443.post-49212317293716712352011-12-01T10:29:00.001-08:002012-03-20T11:19:38.405-07:00Help Me Reach My Facebook Goal!!We only need 195 more Likes to reach our goal of 1000 by the end of the year.
If you've dabbled in social media for awhile, you've probably noticed that it's a time consuming -- you can lose hours just reading posts, looking at photographs, following links, listening to videos and chit-chatting with friends (e.g., socializing).

Although social media is a fun chore, for it to make business sense, it needs to be a productive chore.

John D. Leavy, the founder of InPlainSite Marketing, a digital-marketing strategy firm, and author of Outcome-Based Marketing: New Rules for Marketing on the Web, provides a social networking agenda in his article How to Create a Social Media Marketing Schedule.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06627282790799774707noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6054717479623837443.post-90434373473386068572011-11-20T06:20:00.001-08:002011-11-20T06:29:35.371-08:00Color Psychology and Online MarketingIn 2001, I wrote an article on how to choose colors schemes, which is still a top landing page on my site. Color has the ability to elicit all kinds of emotions, so picking a color scheme that will reflect the tone of your business (logo, website, business cards, etc.) is an important first step.

One of my favorite sites is color combos, which makes choosing complimentary colors easy and is great for researching color schemes.

This morning I came across an article entitled Color Psychology and Online Marketing, which not only discusses color theory, but also what to watch out for if your website is targeted toward an international audience. The last thing you want to do is insult your customers by using the wrong colors.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06627282790799774707noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6054717479623837443.post-38378196172174041532011-11-04T06:05:00.000-07:002012-03-20T11:18:26.015-07:00New Site Launched: Aerovex SystemsI am pleased to announce the launch of Aerovex Systems's new website. What I'm finding is that there is a lot of work to be done to get it right on the social web. Most of us just have the tip of our big toe in the water.

This week, we did a Four Quadrant Assessment assignment examining a company's brand, competition, customers and partners. My classmate and I tackled the customer assessment, and what we found is although Company X had a well-rounded social presence, they weren't very sociable--there was very little interaction going on between them and their followers.

Most of us don't like to be criticized, but if you look at criticism as constructive, you will find many opportunities to not only improve your products and services but also your relationship with your customers. Don't be one of those companies who ignore customer complaints on the social web; use this golden opportunity to listen to what your users want and engage with them. That's what social networking is about!!

Read Jay Baer's blog post: 70% of Companies Ignore Customer Complaints on Twitter.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06627282790799774707noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6054717479623837443.post-29069256223385504932011-10-12T13:55:00.000-07:002011-10-12T13:56:18.468-07:00The Importance of Backing Up Your Joomla SiteSomething weird happened over the weekend -- one of my client's websites was hacked. To make matters worse, all of the files on the web server were erased. In my 11 years of developing websites, that has never happened... It was a new site, so we had a pretty recent backup of our own, but just imagine...

On Friday, I spent about an hour and a half making updates to the website, so I know for a fact before the weekend, everything was good. Like I usually do, I made a backup of the site with Akeeba Backup, but I didn't download the file to my hard drive, because I felt confident it was safe on the web server.

Big mistake!!!

In the past several days, I have exchanged a number of emails with the hosting company who didn't take responsibility for their server being hacked -- instead, they pointed fingers at us for not choosing good passwords...

So why am I sharing this very embarrassing, hard lesson with you? To warn you to be proactive, make regular backups, and download backup files to your own server (e.g., computer). You need to protect yourself from evil hackers looking to do your business harm.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06627282790799774707noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6054717479623837443.post-25470164690925143292011-10-11T13:03:00.000-07:002012-03-20T11:15:08.374-07:00New Site Launched: Mast-O-CardI am pleased to announce the launch of Jamal Robinson's new website. Since I'm not a graphic designer -- although I have a keen eye for design -- I've been marketing myself as a minimalist designer. The advantages of a minimalist design:

User-friendly - much easier for people to find what they're looking for.

Search engine friendly - much easier for search engines to crawl and index.

Faster download speeds - since a minimalist design uses fewer graphics as eye candy, the pages download much quicker (good for both people and search engines).

This morning, I read an article by Mohammad Moradi entitled 15+ Inspirational Examples of Website Redesign. What I found looking at the before and after screen shots is that the vast majority are utilizing a minimalist design.
Do you?I came across this article, Overcoming the Small Business Inferiority Complex, and my initial thought was why should we feel inferior running a small business?

I have been self-employed for eight years, and I love the entrepreneurial spirit of small business owners. To start a small business takes a high degree of skills sets (you wear a lot of hats), confidence in ones abilities, perseverance in not giving up when the going gets tough, people skills (you need to be able to work with many personality types), organization & attention to detail, just to name a few of the attributes small business owners must possess. People who successfully run small businesses are not lazy and they're certainly not inferior in intellect or wherewithal!
If you run a small business, be proud--most people are destined to work as employees, not employers.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06627282790799774707noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6054717479623837443.post-70819824761953125232011-08-18T15:27:00.000-07:002012-03-20T11:35:00.405-07:00New Site Launched: Advanced OpticsI am very happy to announce the launch of Advanced Optics. In that time, I've piddled around with circles, have posted a few links and have commented on other people's posts. But, I haven't made a concerted effort to use it like I use Facebook... yet.

Do I think Facebook has some serious competition here? I sure do!! Google+ takes what we know and like about Facebook and makes it better in a lot of ways:

Circles

My absolute favorite feature of Google+ is, without a doubt, circles. What I like about circles is that it provides an efficient way to organize your contacts by friends, family members, peers, clients, whatever... Then, on your wall, you can filter your news stream by circle, which makes it easy to weed out "the noise." Since I am anal about organization, circles are right up my alley!

Layout

In terms of look and feel, Google+ and Facebook share similar designs. Comparing the two, Google+'s profile page is way less cluttered than Facebook's. Google+ utilizes a two-column layout versus Facebook's three-column layout. There's more white space in Google+, which is easier on the eyes (and brain).

In Google+, underneath the profile picture, is a "Send an email," button which makes it quick & easy to send a private message. I like this feature much better than Facebook's rather obscure "Send a New Message."

No More Typos

In Google+, you can actually edit posts. I sure wish Facebook had that feature.
Navigation

Another thing I like about Google+ are the icons adjacent to the search bar, which makes it easy to navigate the site.

Quick Access to Google Tools

The toolbar at the top of the page is an easy click to all your favorite Google tools and gadgets, which makes Google+ not only a social networking site but also a productivity site.

Everything in one place--how cool is that?!! Now that I think about it, I'm going to make Google+ my start page!

When I enrolled in the course back in June, I was a bit skeptical, but now having gone through the course, I am elated; not only did I meet some very nice people, I learned the nuts & bolts about social media management.

Am I an expert? Hardly. But I do feel more competent!!

I want to thank my instructors, @Axel Schultze and @Marita Roebkes. I am so glad our paths crossed, and I look forward to enrolling in your October 2011 Social Media Strategist course!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06627282790799774707noreply@blogger.com0
